The SCI-TASTIC (Science is Fantastic!) Summer Science Camp was designed to give pre-service elementary school teachers the chance to implement science activities and engage students with meaningful educational science experiences. The Sci-Tastic camp was originally developed as one component of a multifaceted NSF grant designed to increase the interest, skills and confidence of pre-service teachers who received instruction in research-based effective strategies to teach science to elementary students. In addition to impacting the teachers, our data indicates the Sci-Tastic camp has provided positive educational experiences for the students. A majority of the students reported liking the camp and gaining new scientific knowledge. Additionally, the majority of parents/guardians on the 2018 post-camp survey indicated their children could describe camp experiments and wanted to continue them at home. They felt their children benefitted from working in teams to solve scientific and engineering problems and indicated that they were “Very Likely” to recommend this camp to other parents.
